Excellent for first time buyers like me!  |
This is the first home cinema system I have owned and I looked into it carefully before choosing the DCS313 due to its very high spec for this price bracket. I certainly havent been disappointed. The system was easy to set up (although the colour coding on the speaker cables didnt match the instructions, a minor niggle!)and the menus are very easy to understand despite there being a vast array of advanced configuration options.5:1 surround from DVDs is excellent and the virtual surround for stereo input from the TV is also surprisingly good (I watched independence day on a standard tv broadcast and the system managed to put space ships behind me in the room!). Apart from the cabling issue, the only other problem I have found is the very bright blue "power on" light on the front of the box. Even in ambient room lighting this light can be distracting and turn the lights down to watch a movie and it becomes a blue spotlight shining out from under the TV! Easily solved by putting the DVD case over it, but a bit of an oversight by Pioneer.

Outstanding Value for Money  |
I spent several days surfing the net and reading reviews concerning this and other multi region systems on the market. I was dubious of a system that claimed to do so much with a price tag much lower than many others out there. I assumed that sound quality would be sacrificed - I was wrong...I took the plunge and ordered the product and it arrived earlier than expected. Set-up was easy using the colour coded leads and speaker labels. I was impressed at Jurassic park without the speakers in the correct poistions and after a quick room re-arrangment I was enjoying both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 surround. The system sounds great even turned up loud and is easy to use and configure. If I had to make one negative comment (as I believe nothing is perfect) it would be that the speaker cables have plastic connectors to attach to the rear of the unit. This means it would be difficult to upgrade the cabling on the system. However the wire supplied with the product is of a pretty high quality so this should not be a problem for most. I would recommend this system to anyone - not just those on a tight budget.

Pioneer has always created exceptional,yet affordable systems for everyone to enjoy, and this particular product does not undermine their reputation. The picture is clear and accute, the style is, not its best i must say,yet smart and stylish, but it is the sound quality that is most mouth dropping.
